A collection of highly acclaimed, pioneering productions combined with his electrifying DJ sets have established DJ/producer/remixer Dibby Dougherty as one of Irelands most exciting and ground-breaking talents to cause a stir in the world of electronic music in recent years. Boasting dance music luminaries such as Sasha, John Digweed, Hernan Cattaneo, Mark Knight, Nick Warren, Dave Seaman and Funkagenda as just some of his advocates, Dibby is firmly on track to becoming as prominent as his heavyweight admirers.
Originally heralding from L’Derry in the north-west of the province, Dibby is currently based in Northern Ireland’s capital Belfast. He holds a residency at the city’s illustrious Yello, voted number 6 in dance music bible Mixmag’s Top 10 UK clubs of 2008 and in 2010 Yello was voted as one of DJ Mags Top 100 Clubs in the world. Together with regular guest slots at Portrush super-club Lush!, over the last couple of years Dougherty has played alongside everyone from Groove Armada, Dirty Vegas and Crazy P to Nick Warren, Sébastien Léger and Mark Knight. Further afield, he is regularly touring at clubs in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and across America. Covering a broad spectrum of electronica, Dibby’s DJ sets are largely based around progressive house and techno, however prepare to be mesmerised as he incorporates everything from lush deep house to stabbing acid house into the equation. Always exhilarating but never predictable, Dibby commandeers the dance floor with skill and precision.
Describing his production style as “energetic and underground but firmly focussed on dance floor friendly cuts”, Dibby cites an array of prolific dance music influences. From the fresh sounds of labels such as Urban Torque, Rebirth and Cecille to the earlier influences of Sasha & Digweed’s infamous Northern Exposure mixes and classic releases on London Recordings, Dibby draws inspiration from over a decade of dance music heritage. His distinctive productions have been released on revered labels such as Dave Seaman’s Audio Therapy imprint, Global Underground, and Baroque. He has also had the honour of remixing for artists like Infusion, Trafik, Jimmy Van M and Oliver Moldan to name a few. As some of the biggest and most respected names in dance music have testified, Dibby Dougherty looks destined for great things. Be sure to keep your eyes and ears open for his name – you’ll be hearing lots more of it in the near future…
