Chris has always had a musical background, so when he got his first set of decks he developed his mixing skills more quickly than a lot of other djs. In 1999 he started building up his trance collection, with likes of gouryella, cygnus x, Solarstone, system f etc. His first sets were at house parties and private functions, even doing a few local raves out of the back of his car!!!
Then the opportunity arose for his first residency. The Basement @ the Knightsbridge, N. Ireland. They were looking for some new talent so Chris stepped up to the box. Playing to crowds of 200-600 people week in week out. The music policy of the Knightsbridge (R.I.P.) was unfortunately not to Chris’s liking but he saw past this and realized the possibilities that lay ahead. During those years Chris made some good friends, connections and gained a lot of experience.
Through the Knightsbridge Chris met DJ Tizer, Eddie Wray and a few other Old Skool heroes. This led to work outside the DJing scene in production work for “ULTRASONIC”, “ULTIMATE BUZZ” and his good friend Tony Walsh (DJ Tizer). Tizer gave Chris the opportunity to play to a crowd of 2000 people in Banbridge which up until then was the biggest crowd Chris had ever played to.
After this Chris, Rox came across the music styles of hard trance and hardstyle. He was listening to tunes by Scot Project & Kai Tracid a year and a half before they had reached the British mainland let alone Ireland. Chris now has a massive hardstyle collection much of which has still not reached the UK & Ireland, thats why his Dutch style mixing technique and hard edged tunes destroy the dance floor every time. At the minute he is “probably” the only DJ playing this style in Northern Ireland. Chris is inspired by DJs like Pavo, Luna, Lady Dana and Jimmy the Sound.
Chris Rox is flying the flag for Hardstyle in his country.
