Voted Brazil’s no.1 DJ three times (by Cool magazine), and with current residencies at Brazil’s two main underground clubs, Warung and D-edge, Paulo Boghosian is undeniably one of Brazil’s most respected and appreciated house music artists.
An electronic music addict since adolescence, Boghosian began his professional music career in 1999 when he won an up-and-coming DJ competition. Since then, his career has been on a continuously evolving journey.
With refined musical taste – combined with precise mixing skills and dance floor awareness – Boghosian earned credentials early on in his career to perform at prominent launch parties for international labels in Brazil. As his career evolved, he became noted for both his quality in house music and for his increasingly distinctive style, displaying influences from deep house, minimal, tech house, and techno sounds. All the while, he continued to gain immense respect from Brazil’s underground scene, earning invites to play in most – if not all – of Brazil’s main clubs, including: D-edge (residency) and Clash in Sao Paulo, Sirena in Maresias, Garage in Campo Grande, and Warung in Itajai, where Boghosian currently holds a monthly residency (also voted the 3rd best club in the world by Mixmag magazine in 2009).
As a Warung resident, Boghosian is frequently chosen to open for top international DJs and has received strong support from big names such as Dubfire, Nic Fanciulli, Nick Curly, Jimpster, FunkdVoid, and Paul Woolford. Many such names have requested Boghosian to tour alongside them.
In 2007, he was invited to play at Circo Loco (DC-10) in Ibiza and The End (Olmetto night) in London, as part of a Warung worldwide tour. His sets were met with wide acclaim. Other international gigs include Avalon in Los Angeles and CroBar in Buenos Aires.
As a producer, Boghosian has concocted a mix of CD compilations, using his tracks alongside those of Nic Fanciulli, Gui Boratto, Layo & Bushwacka, and Grammy-nominated producer Tchorta Boratto, to name a few.
More recently, while producing alongside Andre Torquato, Paulo Boghosian signed to Cecille Records. His mix, Balaka, emerged on Cecille Numbers in September 2010, having reached the top 5 most charted mixes in Resident Advisor’s ranking. Together, Boghosian and Torquato have produced remixes for Romanian Horatio and Italian duo Luca Marano and Larsen. They’ve also signed tracks to prominent compilations, such as “Be @ Space Ibiza” and “Defected in the House – Tokyo 2011”.
In early 2012, Boghosian also released a 6-track EP (“Need U”, released by Raw Cutz Records) and one full-length album (“Torquato & Boghosian”, released by famed deep house label Yoruba Records, and distributed by Defected Records). “Need U” features remixes from various artists – including Dupshape and David Ponziano – while diving into deep house sounds with electrifying vocals. “Torquato & Boghosian” takes fans on a spiritual voyage over euphoric melodies and mysterious vocals, displaying influences from African tribal beats.
Combining the skill and experience of a ground-breaking DJ, along with forward thinking, quality music productions, Paulo Boghosian is certainly a name to keep your eyes and ears open for.
