Bernard’s interest in dance music started at the early age of five while banging on pots and pans to the 45’s his brother and sister handed down from their Disco collection. An accomplished musician starting at the age seven, He has played with numerous prestigious organizations during his youth such as the San Francisco Symphony, San Jose Symphony during the late 70’s and early 80’s. As a recognized musician he has played at the Monterey, Reno and San Jose Jazz Festivals.
Bernard stumbled across decks at the age of 14 doing parties for friends and school dances that soon became a regular gig on the weekends. While perfecting the art Bernard engaged in DJ battle competitions across the Bay Area during the mid 80’s. In 1987 Bernard received the âSan Francisco Bay Area Battle of the DJ’sâ? award. This prestigious honor opened the door to a legendary beginning.
In 1987 Bernard embarked on a 12-year residency at the popular âEdgeâ? Nightclub (1987-2000) in the San Francisco Bay Area. During his residency he received numerous awards and ranking in the top three of local reader’s polls. Throughout his residency Bernard was always one step ahead of the dance music scene breaking the new tunes and styles to the clubbers thus, enabling him to keep his loyal patrons and friends coming back for more.
During his tender at the Edge Nightclub Bernard mixed for numerous radio stations in the San Francisco Bay Area. With a B.A. in Radio & Television Broadcasting Bernard had no problem airing his talents. He has hosted and mixed live on San Francisco Bay Area stations 95.3 KATD, 94.5 KWSS, LIVE 105, Z95.7, Channel 104.9, and WILD 94.9, 102.5 KDON and Alice 97.3 along with the college stations KSJS, KOHL, KZSU and KSCU.
In the late 80’s Bernard ventured into the studio with remixing tracks for artists like Depeche Mode, UB40, Jaydee, Jam N’ Spoon, New Order, Erasure, Moby, Kicks Like a Mule, Gat Decor, 2 Bad Mice and Sunscreem. All tracks were signed to many different remix labels that are still in demand today.
With having a 12-year residency, Radio play and producing music it still wasn’t enough to please his appetite for music. In 1997 Bernard opened up his own retail record store Rhythm Music in the San Francisco Bay Area gearing directly to the DJ enthusiasts.
In 2000 after the end of his residency Bernard decided to take a hiatus from the music scene. He sold his retail store and boxed up his over 75,000 records, 10,000 CD’s and music gear and stowed it away until he felt it was time to resurface.
On New Year’s 2002 in Istanbul Turkey Bernard resurfaced with a passionate, soulful, funky style landed him a spot with Deep Vision/Aurei Records with award winning producer, Sandy Rivera of Kings of Tomorrow. He has graced the turntables in Turkey, Portugal , Spain , Switzerland , Netherlands , France and Germany as well as across the United States . He has played/billed along side with such Artists/DJ’s as Tony Humphries, Paul Oakenfold, Danny Tenaglia, David Morales, Sandy Rivera, Brian Tappert, Kaskade, Pound Boys, Boy George, Derrick Carter, Deep Dish, Lenny Fontana, Satoshi Tomiie, Kevin Yost, Bad Boy Bill, Peretz, Gene Farris, Lee Cabrerra, Stonebridge, Hector Romero, Tall Paul, Donald Glaude, Mark Farina, Jask, Dj Dan, Julius Papp, Doc Martin, DJ Skribble, Dubtribe, Miguel Migs.
On the local tip Bernard can be heard at San Francisco Bay Area venues such as RubySkye, Suite181, Paradise Lounge, Cloud 9, 1015, Whisper, Loft 11, Space 550 and Sno-Drift and the list goes on where he has preached the soulful vibe to his Disciples.
