Andy Spencer

Bloxwich, United Kingdom

Andy Spencer has been involved in the music industry since the late 1980s.

He still shares the same enthusiasm and passion for house music now, as he did when he first started playing the likes of Farley Jackmaster Funk & Steve Silk Hurley!

A progression from vinyl to CD has enabled Andy to develop excellent skills on the Pioneer CDJ100s, and is continuing to embrace new technology.

Today, he is arguably one of house music’s best-kept secrets on the DJ circuit, and can boast appearances in many UK and USA venues.

Andy has attended and DJed at the Winter Music Conference in Miami for the past 2 years, and has worked alongside the likes of Dave Pearce, Seamus Haji, Sonny Wharton, Rid Welson, Tom Heron, Miss Divine, Adam Le Saint, Claire Spooner, the HouseJunkies, and the late, great Tony De Vit (Trade).

“I’ve never tried to copy any of the DJs I have been fortunate to work alongside, but I have learned a huge amount about the way they work. My CD wallet is influenced by some of the amazing music coming out of labels such as Hed Kandi, Defected, Fierce Angels, MN2S, Toolroom & CR2.”

Memorable DJ appearances have been at Rapture in Loughborough, Club North in Manchester, GLOW & Filthy Funky in Walsall, Distinction in Shifnal, Escapade in Newport, Studio 54 in Coventry, plus Tradewinds in Hawaii and the Ferry Terminal in Seattle and of course WMC in Miami!

In 2005 he launched Funkin Good – a brand to promote “chunky, funky & soulful house music”, and has enjoyed much success in running various events throughout the Midlands.

In May 2008, Andy collaborated with fellow Midlands DJs Alex Ross, Shaun Mynett and James Brewerton to launch FLUSH, This monthly night in Cannock has gone from strength to strength, and is shortly to commence a UK tour. Andy also has 2 other residencies – GO FUNK YOURSELF in Cannock and LOFT in Ashby De La Zouch.

“I still get a tremendous buzz from DJing, but I have also found myself getting more involved with event promotion – great fun, but hard work! I hope to get back into the studio & start remixing & producing my own material too.”

So 2009 is looking like being another hugely successful year for Andy Spencer – a hard working, experienced DJ with an immense passion for house music.
