ANDY JAMES – BerettaMusic/Soniktexture Recordings/Goahead Productions/Digital Goodtime Productions/Koala-Tea Productions – Cleveland, OH
Inspired by earlier electronic groups like Kraftwerk, New Order, Orbital, The Shamen, 808 State and Underworld, Andy James first started going to parties in 1998. Some of the DJs he saw that year included Adam Beyer, Marco Carola, Joel Mull, Christian Smith, Cari Lekebusch and Claude Young. At the time he had no idea who they were, but the records they were playing and the way they were mixing them definitely had an impact on him. Techno was infused in his blood and he needed a release. Andy started spinning records in 1999 and hasn’t looked back since.
Always known for rocking the hard and funky techno beats, Andy has risen to become one of the Midwests hardest working techno DJs. In 2000, after only spinning for 6 months, he competed and placed second out of eight DJs at the Atomic Battle of the DJs held at the Metropol, Pittsburghs largest club — 800 people were in attendance for the finals! Andy has played alongside T-1000, Stacey Pullen, Frankie Bones, David Hollands, Punisher, Barry Weaver, Scott & Robbie Hardkiss, Shawn Rudiman, and Dan Curtin to name a few. Currently, Andy is playing at various weeklies, club events, parties and radio shows in and around Ohio, Pittsburgh, Detroit, and various other cities around the East Coast and Midwest. With his 13 released mixes, Andy has caused a serious buzz around the Midwest, East Coast and on the Internet. Andy’s fast-paced mixing skills and unique technical style on 3 decks have allowed his DJ schedule to grow by the minute.
Andy’s talents extend beyond the turntables, as he has been producing original techno tracks since 2000. Just like Andy’s DJ sets, his style is best described as powerful peak time floor-shaking, fist-pumping techno with sweeping breakdowns and cleverly programmed loops and beats. Andys energy has been consumed in his many DJ bookings, but also in the studio preparing for techno world domination. Keep on the lookout for original tracks and collaborations to be released on BerettaMusic (Detroit) and on his forthcoming label Soniktexture in 2004.
