If you are an avid follower of the NY club scene, It’s likely that one time or another you have been uplifted by the big room sounds of Andrew Mendez. Born in Jamaica Queens, Andrew comes from a family filled with entertainers and musicians. He quickly picked up playing the drums like his father and the tenor saxophone. His musical influences growing up ranged from Jazz, Rock, new wave, Jungle Breaks, Hip Hop, R and B and classic disco. At the young age of 12, Andrew first received his first pair of turntables and the rest is history.
DJing the metro area club circuit, his big break came a few years later when a friend asked him to become the resident DJ of a new party called “The Clique” which took place at the renowned hot spot Cheetah. For two years it was being recognized as the one of the best parties to hit NYC. His celebrated 10 hour sets week in and week out quickly propelled Andrew into big room residencies such as the world famous Soundfactory, the legendary Roxy, and the infamous Limelight. Andrew has been one of the first NJ programmers to hold such venues, but his talents brought him to another avenue of entertainment. He appeared regularly on MTV as a co host and Dancer for shows like The Grind, The Grind Workout Video’s, The Daily Burn Summer Share and Video. Plus he was a member of the New York Nike Culture Shock Hip Hop Dance Troupe which traveled across the country performing at major events and charity functions.
Andrew’s ability to work records is truly unique. His skills to manipulate track on the fly with 3 turntables, CD players and samplers is the reason why crowds ask “how did he do that?” and keep coming back for more. Through his own style of chunky tribal, techy progressive house, vocal anthems and peak hour beats, he takes you on an emotional rollercoaster. His talent has also landed him a mix show on the #1 dance radio station Clear Channelâs WKTU 103.5 fm. Appearing regularly at 3-5 am Saturday/Sunday mornings, the Saturday Night Dance Factory boast talent such as Tiesto, Paul Oakenfold, DJ Skribble, David Morales, Johnny Vicious, Denny Tsettos, DJ Boris, and Liquid Todd to name a few.
