Imported to Seattle from the mountains of Montana, Andrew Cox has brought with him a passion for music that is the driving force in his life. Not content to be alone in this, his desire is to share the music with as many as will listen.
With a background in performance on the trumpet and piano as well as conducting, he demonstrates in his on-stage mixing the confidence and professionalism that ensure an outstanding performance wherever he plays – a fusion of what the crowd wants to hear and where he wants to take them.
Andrew became hooked on electronic music in 1986 when he first heard early ambient playing on a public radio show that aired Thursday evenings once a month. From that moment on, he grabbed any electronic music he could find. In the process, he discovered gifted artists such as Orbital, Leftfield, Chemical Brothers, Juno Reactor, Crystal Method, Daft Punk, and many others. Electronic music became a staple in his listening diet along with jazz, classical, alternative, and many other melodic genres of music.
At 20, Andrew packed up his belongings and moved out to Seattle to pursue an education in 3D Animation at Seattle’s Art Institute. As fate would have it, friends dragged him out to his first clubbing experience downtown on his first Friday night in Seattle and introduced him to the DJ and electronic music culture. It was love at first bass-line.
The next few months found him surrounded by the music and magic of DJ’s known locally and around the world. He was drawn specifically to the sounds of progressive house. Captivated by its melodic build-ups and flowing tracks, he fell for the progressive sound inspired by such DJ greats as John Digweed, Sasha, Christopher Lawrence, Quivver, and Max Graham. When listening wasn’t enough, he stepped up to the decks himself, where he discovered a fire within that has brought him to where he is today — one of the core group of progressive DJs in the Seattle scene.
Having already released eight full-length demo mixes and two original tracks, Andrew’s music is a perpetual work in progress. A tireless perfectionist, he is constantly learning, experimenting and searching for new techniques in mixing. He explores the full range of progressive music, playing anything from bouncing housey beats to deep tribal progressive house, blending them with surgical hands and ears. His energetic progressive sound keeps fans coming back to hear him spin, helping him find a firm foothold in the Seattle scene.
Searching for the perfect sound, the greatest composition, and the most profound musical language with which to communicate his passion to an audience will be a lifetime’s journey for this young man, and it will be followed closely by a crowd of happy listeners with their hands in the air.
