DJ 19 is a DJ who has continued to cultivate and revolutionize the Japanese club scene. He DJs drawing from this vast knowledge of music. Continuing to live in Tokyo, he DJs not just in Japan and in Asia, playing further a field in England, Turkey, US and Italy . On February 7th 2002, he DJed in the Bedrock party main room at Heaven in London. He also provides his DJ mix to John Digweed’s radio show on Kiss FM.
Back in Tokyo DJ 19 has been got a residency at the world-renowned venue Liquid Room, playing at the monthly party “the ocean (ex:mothership)”. “the ocean” has been the first party in Japan to introduce progressive house music, and has had DJs such as Sasha, Paul Van Dyk, Dave Seaman, Nick Warren, Anthony Pappa, Danny Howells, Sister Bliss and Timo Maas grace their decks, as well as live acts such as B.T. and Junkie Xl playing. And Now, He’s got a new residency party called PARK.
DJ 19 has released a number of his own tracks, but first came to prominence overseas with a track called “Mothership”, released under the name Trancentral Station. This track was included on Jimmy Van M’s Bedrock mix CD, and was a well received track throughout the world. Trancentral Station’s “Mothership” was released through DJ 19’s own label, 19Box Recordings, which he set up in 1999. The reason for the name 19Box is simple. In Japanese “19” is pronounced “Juke”. The concept is to release music that could be played on jukebox forever.
Tracks released from 19Box Recordings are ranked in the Balance Promote Group Chart, and played by top DJs throughout the world. DJ 19 has released his tracks not only through 19Box Recordings, but has also contracted to release tracks through Hook Recordings , Dorigen Recordings , MB Recordings and INSATIABLE SOCIETY. And then DJ 19 set up sister label called PARK LIMITED MUZIK, which focus on techy & electro sound and 19BOX LIMITED.
DJ 19 has also done lots of remixes and production works. One of them, a female Japanese duo called “Maji Na Damu”. Their track “B.W.Y.” was featured on Paul van Dyk’s “The Politics of Dancing”. DJ 19 also teams up with Edison who was a composer of DJ Krush and Julianne from Australia under Ambrozia moniker to make down tempo stuffs. DJ 19 is not just a nu-breed DJ – he is a respected producer and creator.
The name DJ 19 is taken from Paul Hardcastle’s hit “19”.
