The expressive electronic duo RADIOZOO are currently pushing their latest single "Closer." This enchanting single is 100% worth checking out, and this pair has more on the way...
Good to have you! Please tell us a little about yourselves… who are you and where are you currently based?
Thanks for having us! We are Koi Koi and Duck Spencer, and together we are RADIOZOO. We’re based in the Southwest of Germany. But this whole wonderful planet is our home.
How long have you been making music?
We’re making noise since we were born. But in a professional manner? About 10-12 years.
What made you first want to write it?
I think one of the initial reasons to start making music is always some kind of social acceptance. Applause from a group of people you secretly admire; the search for glory and fame of course. Sometimes writing a song is the best way to communicate your feelings. Creating music can be quite curative.
What do you enjoy most about producing?
I would say the moment when you surprise yourself. It sounds funny, but in a creative process it’s like winning the lottery when you realise that your idea, your melody or lyric just works! That is something we love about producing. It’s the moment when we jump around and dance in the studio ;-)
What difficulties does it sometimes bring?
Like in any other creative profession, it can be an exhausting process. Being creative, finding a way to get things work or even just getting stuff finished – you need a lot of passion and discipline. It’s comparable to a good relationship. Although it is true love, you need effort to make it work.
Do you surroundings inspire your music?
Of course it does! How can it not? Family, friends, partners, the city we live in, the history of our families, the news… All of it affects our music in some way. Not always in an apparent manner, but it definitely does affect our music.
How would you sum up the signature RADIOZOO sound?
If only we could ;-) We choose the name RADIOZOO because we are really into - let’s call it “radio music,” meaning pop music. But we also still love fucked up, dark stuff that makes us mosh, go crazy, party hard or even cry. So RADIO and ZOO are like good and bad fighting each other constantly. Good has won very often, lately ☺
Are you pleased with how “Closer” has turned out?
Absolutely! I mean, we are newcomers. What can we expect from our third release? Everything that happens right now is just amazing. And hey, we are giving an interview right now? Can you believe it?!
• How did you first meet YAN and get to know his music?
We are first and foremost producers and one of our closest friends and artist we also working with is KWADI.
An unbelievable singer and person. I (KoiKoi) normally accompany KWADI on his gigs as his live operator.
One day, he brought up YAN as support act. This guy came on the stage with nothing but an acoustic guitar and rocked the show! He is a natural!
Btw, “Closer” was his 1st ever studio recording.
• Where do you see your sound progressing over the coming months/years?
Hard to tell. We just want to make great songs! We may increase productivity or unleash the fury on a wild ep.
But we still love to reach as much people and hearts as we can with our music.
• If you could work with any artist (alive or dead) on a track, who would you choose and whyTo be honest, it’s not as easy as one thinks to work with other artist. Not that we or other artist are “difficult” characters, it’s more about the workflow. You need to get into a certain flow to make great music. And that is really complicated when too many heads are in a room. We really do love to work with singers or songwriters. They can give us a raw idea and we start from there. And vice versa – when we wrote or just composed a track, we would love to send a raw idea to another producer. But that rarely happens, because Duck and I already share this kind of workflow. Sometime I write something on my own, record it and Duck takes over and starts the producing. Anyhow, there are of course artist we really would to work with:
Justin Timberlake, Pharrell Williams, Timbaland, Ed Sheeran - Maybe because they are from a different genre? Or Bebe Rexha, Jessie J, Sia, Pink, Anne Marie…
So many great female singers!
• What can we expect from you next?
We have some great stuff in the pipeline and we will release song after song, trying to draw some attention and finding a fan base in this wonderful world.
Oh, you should take a look at our new collaboration song with KWADI “Don’t let go”. (https://open.spotify.com/track/3LdFFVwlWhIeF9nWd9gGHV?si=_WvqkmCDTEaFrVPOzwSlTQ)
What are your dreams for this year?
It’s basically the same answer: Drawing some attention with our music, finding people who loves our idea of music, staying healthy, world peace and a confirmed booking for the next ultra music festival. ☺
