Brownies and Lemonade at HARD Summer
Brownies and Lemonade- also popularly known by their abbreviation, B&L- is currently one of the most talked about production companies in the Electronic Dance Music Industry. Founded and executed by Kush Fernando and Jose Guzman, the B&L team has made concerts nothing short of an exciting experience. From secret lineups and introducing up and coming artists, to headlining big-name artists like Madeon and RL Grime, these shows are always a party. B&L events were originally derived from throwing kick-ass parties in the neighborhoods of UCLA as an alternative to frat parties and lame neighborhood bars. B&L surprise parties caught attention across the nation, and soon enough went viral for their explosive and refreshing take on the rave-party scene; attendees paid a minimal price for an unforgettable event. After their fast-fame began to gain exposure and credibility, Brownies and Lemonade began having their own sets at concerts and music festivals. With tricks always up their sleeves, in 2017 B&L had their own art cart at the Electric Daisy Carnival where they continuously brought out secret guests the entire night. Having artists like Jai Wolf, Ekali, and Louis the Child show up and play back to back brought the crowd in and excited fans for what they had planned for the future of their brand. Little did fans know that high profile guest appearances were just the beginning. At Miami Ultra in 2018 they had a similar set up: their own stage for an entire day of the festival, and surprising attendees with guest appearances each set. B&L’s returning set to Coachella in 2018 was also nothing short of their previously “planned parties.” Again, they had their own set time and brought out “friends” for a wild party. If you like surprises, the Brownies & Lemonade set is one that you won’t want to miss this year at HARD Summer.
Fast forward to the end of 2017: after hosting multiple events every month up and down the California coast, New York, Austin, and Australia, B&L took their parties across international waters. Playing alongside artists like Point-Point and Cray while in Japan, they debuted the anticipated return of one of their dearest friends, Skrillex (Sonny Moore). If you listen to Electronic Dance Music, chances are you probably know the magnitude of the impact Skrillex has had on the music industry. After releasing his 2010 EP, Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites, Skrillex has been referred to as one of the most renowned and innovative DJ’s to hit the world of EDM. In 2015 he teamed up with Diplo to create Jack Ü, their DJ-duo-alias, which would gather a huge following upon the release of catchy dance hits like “Where are Ü Now” featuring Justin Bieber, and “Take Ü There” featuring Kiesza. After going on tour that same year, the two decided to put this project on hold to focus on their independent music careers again. Since then, Skrillex had been relatively off the grid and under the radar in the EDM world. He has not released much music and in 2017, he announced he was going to be taking a break.
Fast forward again to July 2018: Skrillex and Brownies & Lemonade made a surprise trip to Japan for the OWSLA and Revenge Gallery pop ups, club shows, and Fuji Rock Festival. At the conclusion of their international trip, B&L tweeted about returning to LA en tow with one of their favorite artists and warned fans not to miss their set at hard summer; advising fans to “trust” their advice. Amidst B&L and Skrillex recently spending time together in Japan and releasing vague statements via Twitter, it is heavily speculated that Skrillex, the King and pioneer of EDM, may appear at HARD Summer this year. This is not yet confirmed however, it has fans excited and eager to attend B&L’s set at HARD Summer. The Brownies & Lemonade set at HARD this year will not be one you want to miss, or else commence the fomo.
