Sad Lovers & Giants
High notes in the long and disjointed career of the UK post-punk/wave band Sad Lovers & Giants were recording a session for BBC Radio One’s prime time John Peel show, touring the west coast of America and showcasing at the 2016 SXSW festival in Austin Texas.
They’ve played in every major city in Europe, split twice, reformed and released a sixth studio album, ‘Melting in the Fullness of Time’ then split again before their final reformation in 2010 with the lineup that has recorded their latest ‘Mission Creep’ album. Older, wiser and with an even more resolutely obstinate worldview, such a masterly collection of epic new songs will confirm the status of this unique band.
Electro act ADULT. have been causing anxiety since the late ’90s, with their soundtracks to the horrors of modern living. The Detroit husband-and-wife duo of Adam Lee Miller and Nicola Kuperus have earned themselves a reputation for revealing a dark underbelly of club culture, cataloging themes of obsession and psychosis with black humor. ADULT.’s mix of deadly DIY punk and eerie electro, multimedia artworks and performances creates an aesthetic that intersects between art and audio.
Shopping point, the trio from the UK, are known for their post-punk sound, which they use to discuss themes such as politics and power. With their refreshing sound they know to excite their crowd. Their album ‘The Offical Body’, that came out in January this year, has received great review. Platform Pitchfork even rated the album with an 8.1.
Hailing from Lyon, France is the band Poison Point. Started out as a one man-machine band, but since 2016 they’re a two piece band, Timothée Gainet was now joined by Arnaud Derochefort. With a sharp synth sound, drum machines and keyboards and Timothée’s prime time cold wave vocals, they know how to give a show.
Belgian-German punk-trio Komplicationsmakes self-named ‘Synthetic minimalist music’ which bans guitars to the background and replaces it by a synthesizer. Inspired by 70’s west coast bands and helped by scene veteran Nicus (guitarist of the Parisian Frustration) the group released their debut EP “Step Forward”. Fast forward and the Punk Electrorockers have released four more projects and played shows in Germany, Switzerland, Poland and Austria.
