SEAN CARNAHAN Biography
Language: EnglishHouston Texas DJ, Sean started out by spinning a wide variety of eclectic house and trip hop music at the age of 18 while attending college at UT in Austin, Texas. His first true residency was his weekly night party on the legendary 6th street at a jazz bar called “Stephanie’s.” Since then he has returned often to Austin, including a couple times to perform at SXSW. He has played with over 100 of the top Djs in the world and in 5 different countries throughout his career.
Sean was recognized as a top talent in the USA by being added to the highly respected and exclusive Balance Record Pool. This prestigious organization is composed of only 40 members worldwide that are nominated and elected by committee. The list contains producers and performers such as John Digweed, Sasha, Armin van Buuren to name a few of the 40 members.
Outside of DJing, Sean attends the University of Liverpool (UK) in pursuing a MBA, he maintains his own very popular info-site with over 129,322 members, as well as his weekly newsletter on events. Sean is an avid supporter of social work and causes. Member of many committees and awareness groups for youth, music education and various disaster relief organizations. Sean co-produced an event after Karina disaster which raised over $15,000 in one event for Red Cross and featured Paul van Dyk as the headliner of the event. He also regularly performs for charity events as headliner to raise funds for a wide variety of causes. Sean has brought his studies of business and marketing into the industry and regularly consults with club owners, producers, labels, and event promoters in developing business plans, marketing campaigns, special projects, and promotion of events/venues.
Without management, Sean is regularly booked in USA, UK, Canada, Mexico. His productions remain well circulated via the internet DL sect. Sean co-owns a 5 room electronic music production studio, Tastylick, with his mentor the legendary producer Randall Jones (Tigerhook Corp).
Sean has played in many US cities, Canada, UK, Mexico and received a wide variety of main floor residencies over the years.
Residencies: Avalon, G Spot, Revere, Vapor Room, The lollipop soul shop, Liquid Lounge, Joia, Club Some, Hyperia, Spy, Tonic, Regines, 804 underground, Jones bar, Club 410, Prague, M Bar, Barcode, South Beach Houston, Pacific Street, The Davenport, Bar Rio, Meridian, Power Tools, Ampersand, and many others in his over 10 years of spinning. Headliner talent at events for Cirque, Chanel, Cartier, Tootsies, D&G, Winter Music Conference, Saks 5th Avenue, Tiffany & Co., Macy’s, Versus and Versace. Opening for such bands as The Toadies, Infected Mushroom, Wallflowers, The Crystal Method, Yellowman, The English Beat, The Hunger, Erasure, Earth Wind and Fire, Gus Gus, and others. Sean has opened on main stage for other Dj producers such as Tiesto, Mark Farina, John Digweed, Sasha, Paul van Dyk, Ben Watts, Armin van Buuren, Randall Jones(Tigerhook), Ferry Corsten, Paul Oakenfold, Carl Cox, Gus Gus, DJ Dan, Ian Pooley, Marco Carola, LTJ Bukem, Photek, JMajick Christopher Lawrence, Benny Benassi, Doc Martin, Keoki, Charles Feelgood, Donald Glaude, Chris Fortier, Slacker, Noel Sanger, Sean Cusick, Jimmy Van M, and others.
Sean has won multiple DJ awards and Best DJ polls including Houston Best DJ (1997, 1999, 2000). He is featured in a long list of magazines and online sites such as thedjlist.com, Dallas Observer, Houston Press, 002mag, Papercity, Mixed, Balance, Groove, BPM proton radio.
Sean is currently regarded by his cohorts as being in a state of “Emeritus” though he often returns on special occasion to play for certain weeklies and events.
