PLAYING IS MY WAY TO TEL A STORY"
Borned on the 21st May in Santiago, Chili.
By the time he was 8 years old he moved to the Netherlands. At the age of 18 hi started working as PR manager in a dance club call ‘De Maan’ in Rotterdam. His enormous attraction to music will make spinning the wheels the following natural challenge. One night in 1996 he did a
session without any preparation or practicing . . . by the crowd’s overwhelming respond and Rick’s superb way of playing the owner knows he is dealing with a born DJ. Within very short notice Rick gets his own (Saturday)nights, which are that successful that not long after he plays four nights a week being the house-DJ.
At the end of 1997 Rick has already made reputation at big parties like Phantasia, Plastic Fantastic, etc. He plays among great names in the dance scene, and is called a natural talent in the TV-program ‘the DJ’s of TMF & MTV’. By playing in clubs with well-known names like ‘La Pacha’, ‘Escape’, ‘Maddox’ ‘de Danssalon’ and ‘Podium Gallery X’ he becomes a popular and busy DJ. At the same time ‘De Maan’ had to close down for a tragic personal reason which causes Rick to be faced with the enormous depths in live.
In 2001 Rick starts his own studio. Within a year he releases several tracks with great success. His tracks are highly listed in the club charts from the Netherlands and the rest of Europe. His numbers are notorious because everybody knows them, but nobody really knows where they are coming from. The fact that Rick has been using pseudonyms as well make his productions even somewhat mysterious.
In the international scene Rick is becoming a star as well. In 2003-2004 he makes a fantastic tour through South-America where he is more than welcomed. Furthermore he plays regularly in Spain, Belgium, Macedonia and Great Britain.
Rick is not the kind of type to follow.
In his own words: “the road is created by walking through, not by following footsteps”. This makes his mature, pure underground sound innovative. Rick went deep down to be able to tell his story the best way possible . . . which you can feel. In this way he selects his records as well. He listens very carefully; he needs to know what the producer’s means are with a specific record to be able to use it the perfect way.
This proves to be working as well when he is making music. When Rick starts producing, he never knows in advance what will come out. Ideas are, according to Rick, expectations you never can live completely up to. Therefore he creates from complete emptiness. When Rick is playing it is this same emptiness he needs.
People will have expectations knowing he will be at a party. Add to that the fact the previous DJ has left them in a specific mood. The most important thing is they will start listening to hís story, and that shall never happen when he has made specific preparations. It will only happen by being, playing and using that unique moment . . .
