JOHNNY MACK Biography
Language: EnglishComing from a family of musicians, John has always had music in his blood.
After being exposed to the Canadian Dance music scene via Chris Sheppard’s residency at the Lyric in 1993 while attending the University of Waterloo he finally knew what his musical outlet would be. John began avidly collecting mix cd’s and any dance music he could get his grubby little hands on. A trip to Radio Shack to purchase a P.A. mixer, some dismantling of his parent’s CD players, a little trial and error and viola!! His first mix tape. As terrible as it must have sounded, he was hooked. Next a kind friend donated some ancient Technics belt-drive turntables and it was on to vinyl. Many hours of staring at the bedroom wall while mixing and some complaints from the neighbors about the noise and a DJ was beginning to take shape.
Moving to Windsor to continue his education, John began to pick up one-off gigs in establishments such as; The Amsterdam Cafe, The Loop, Lift Cafe, Bif Nasty’s, The Avalon Front, The Press Club, The University of Windsor Pub and Face’s On College.
Face’s turned into a regular gig and out of necessity John was introduced to the world of Hip-Hop. Initially a staunch advocate of house, techno and dance, he began to appreciate the challenges that hip-hop presented him.
Another relocation to the Cayman Islands brought about a residency at the Next Level Nightclub. The busiest nightclub on Grand Cayman really put Johnny Mack’s skills to the test. Three years later and one Heineken Green Synergy DJing championship, John is still bringing his infectious love for music and a good time to the residents and visitors of the Cayman Islands.
Catch Johnny Mack live every Friday from 5pm-6pm on 94.9 Spin FM, or at the Next Level Nightclub every Monday, Friday and Saturday.
