GAMECOCK Biography
DJ Gamecock had a fascination with both music and radio as far back as he can remember. After recording comedy tapes about an imaginary radio station in high school (which got passed from one student to another until he lost track of them all), he got tired of hearing people tell him he really should be a radio DJ someday. That eventually led him to graduate with a BA in Broadcast Journalism (and a Minor in Media Arts) from the University of South Carolina. During his years working for a variety of Top 40 and AOR radio stations in the Palmetto State, he also did the usual DJ gigs at nightclubs, weddings, Sweet 16 parties, graduations and high school reunions. DJ Gamecock was on the cutting edge of the digital revolution when CD players came out, literally wearing out a couple early (expensive) models. After finally realizing being a DJ is a young man’s game (WOLD?), he got out of it completely. When web radio came along, he thought about coming out of DJ retirement a few times, but resisted the urge. But, after being begged over and over, he finally agreed to join Club69Radio.com and held down the 8PM to Midnight shift every Friday and Saturday night for several months in a row. Club 69 Radio grew in popularity quickly, moving to the cusp of being a Top 500 web radio station (#536 out of thousands) worldwide. With commercial radio stations rapidly creating their own web streams and his dream of helping Club 69 Radio reach the Top 500 fading, DJ Gamecock decided to cut back his on-air hours and concentrate on just one radio show per week. That spawned his decision to bring back his popular Friday radio show from college “The Weekend Kicker”. 2007 marks the 30th Anniversary of this FM radio show, which debuted in 1977 on WUSC-FM and ran until he graduated in May of 1981. Last year, he released his First Techo Remix Single, “Rooster On Steroids”, which got some airplay on a few broadcast radio stations. “Rooster On Steroids” made its nightclub debut May 5, 2006 at 1,500 watts on South Carolina’s largest dance floor in The Plex (North Charleston, SC), which is part of the national House Of Blues Network. With a packed house there for a Cinco de Mayo celebration, the crowd loved it and DJ Gamecock’s track passed its dancing test with flying colors! (Go hear it on his MySpace page!) He just recently agreed to work at a new commercial web station at radio.rexx.com. Go check it out NOW! | read more
