GHOZT Biography
Language: EnglishJust another DJ, think again. This young upstart from Richmond, VA has what many other DJs lack, passion for the music he plays. He admits he spins for the fun of it, quoted as saying, “I don’t DJ to pay the bills.”
He started spinning with DJ Jinxx in 2003 at Catch 22 where he played primarily Hip-Hop and Top 40. (House really wasn’t prevalent in Richmond at this time.) Jinxx and Ghozt also did three albums worth of remix work that spanned all genres from Country to Techno.
But it was in meeting DJ Tony T in 2005 that changed his perspective on the music that he played. Tony’s extensive library of dance remixes of the tracks Ghozt had played at Catch 22 blew his mind. It was then and there that he decided to start focusing on House as his primary style of play. Tony T and Ghozt have also collaborated on a number of remix projects as well.
It was also in 2005 that he got his job that “pays the bills”. He started off as an intern on the local Top 40 Station Q94 (WRVQ FM) where he quickly made his way to a full time Clear Channel Radio employee as an on-site producer for all 6 stations in the cluster. This job gave him insight into the business side of the industry as well as access to record label contacts. He even remixed Miley Cyrus? #1 hit “See You Again” before it got to #1 because he got the a cappella directly from the label before the song impacted radio.
Currently Ghozt still spins in Richmond at Baja Bean Company on Tuesdays although he is working on a couple of deals that include shows in Chicago, Philadelphia and Las Vegas.
He will tell you repeatedly, “I don’t know how, but all the stars fell into place.” Working with two Richmond DJing legends and understanding both sides of the industry has created the hybrid phenomenon that is DJ Ghozt.
