FORTUNE Biography
Born and raised in England, largely in Bristol, Fortune grew up listening to the sounds of Massive Attack, Morcheeba and Roni Size. She became hooked on electronic music during the eruption of rave culture in the late 80s and early 90s. She moved to California in 1993, right as Dr. Dre dropped the Chronic and sought out her hip-hop education. In 1999 she started djing playing mostly hip-hop. 2 months later she played her first gig and soon had residencies at underground Milwaukee hip-hop establishments Mars Hotel and Quarters. She quickly developed her style to include house, breaks and techno and the elements she had grown up with, and went on to play almost every venue that Milwaukee had to offer, from Dish to Thai Joes, Three to Mantra Lounge, as well as playing in Chicago and Madison. | read more
