Biography
Language: EnglishDJ Ads began DJing in 1989 playing house music at small free parties at the height of the Rave Scene in the U.K. He joined a sound system called Mumbo Jumbo in 1990, who organised monthly events @ The Old Lodge, a local venue in his home town (Stroud), and started working his skills and creating a following.
He then got asked to be a resident DJ @ Cambridge University where he performed with a DJ crew from FunnyBone Records. He also helped the organising and running of Radio Avalon Glastonbury Festivals on-site radio station, two years in a row. From working on the radio station it lead onto the running of DEEP 105.3FM, a local dance radio station, again with the FunnyBone DJ crew, from 1992 96.
In August 1995 he tried his DJing in a hotter climate and took to Portugal, where he DJed @ Incognito Club Lisbon. He then went on to DJ @ Ministry of Sound in London, where he was part of a series of events in the V.I.P Lounge, alongside DJ Mark Moore/ Vinay.
He then took to writing and editing the Club Section in Now Magazine, the South Wests premier Entertainment Life Style Magazine, where he visited Clubs around the South West of England writing reviews etc. This also involved interviews with famous DJs/ Producers, including Carl Cox, Mr. C and writing record reviews for the latest Dance releases. From there he worked @ TIME in Cheltenham Headlining alongside such DJs as Tall Paul, Graham Gold, Tony De Vit.
He then traveled again to hotter climates to help organise and run Autonomous Zone a radio station on the Island of Ibiza between the years 1998- 2000. This involved a two week broadcast from various venues around the Island.
Since moving to Sheffield, Ads has DJed @ several venues in the area, including a new promotion at The Arches alongside Jon W (Headcharge), Ive (Acumen). He also put together a showcase of 4 DJs at the Fifty get Funky festival @ Dogma in Nottingham, featuring DJs Matt Cooper, Paul Field, Ads and scratch DJ OB1.
Ads has also traveled overseas to the East, where he is currently organising what is set to be the largest production of its kind to hit Asia. The tour is starting in Bangkok and is about promoting new music both from the UK and in Bangkok, but is also supported by the UN/ UNDP and MTV promoting safe sex and A.I.D.S awareness. From working in Thailand, Ads has DJed at some of Bangkoks hot spots including an MTV Radio launch party with scratch DJ OB1, alongside Da Jim one of Thailands most prolific rappers, a MTV radio show, a series of events guesting at the Q-bar alongside Billy V, Joeki, Le Sille Discotheque, Xtreme Sports festival in Siam Square, FMX Radio, Bar 69 and Skunk+.
He has also been out to Valencia in Spain, where he headlined alongside resident DJ Gabb @ The Roxy Club, an extensive 2000 capacity venue in the heart of Valencia.
DJ ADS describes his style as cutting edge in the Breakbeat scene and his ability to work the crowd is second to none. He can play various styles of music at an extremely high level and is also known to be a bit of wizard when it comes to scratching.
He is also gifted when it comes to producing, working alongside many up and coming talented artists, developing projects for release on ADLIB RECORDS. Look out for a series of Nu Skool breaks releases, to be launched from ADS archive.
His production sound could be described as solid yet melodic, his ear and ability to capture a feeling from a piece of music is outstanding, a sure thing to be looking out for on the horizon.
