Biography
Language: English“A One Track Mind, and an 8-track Soul…”
Actual Rafiq is an SF Bay Area producer & remixer specializing in tech/electro with seething and feverish bass over jackin’ house beats. He became part of Mizumo Music in 2009 with his 1st release on that label, a remix of Fred Worx’s “Everything is Lies.” Since then, his remixes have repeatedly made the Mizumo “Best of” and “Yearly Preview” compliations, and his 2010 remix of Doogie Houser’s “Flapjack” was selected for re-release by the STRAIGHT UP label.
In addition to house music, Actual Rafiq has independently produced a book soundtrack titled “Music for A Drowning Mermaid.” Styled like an homage to jazz from a David Lynch film, crossed with the funk of blaxploitation and retro porn, it was created to accompany the pulp novel “A Mermaid Drowns in the Midnight Lounge,” by Will Viharo, an East Bay legend. He has also composed for theater productions by the South Bay’s Renegade Theater Experiment, and has created an array of gypsy carnival music for Tunuviel Luv’s horror sideshow: “Dr. Kristov’s House of Fun & Horror.”
When asked about his plans for the future, Actual Rafiq has been quoted as saying:
“I think it’s time to bring back New Jack Swing and 90’s Latin Freestyle… but mashed up with the amen break.”
